Gigabyte joins Windows 8 party with Tablet, Ultra book, and Gaming Laptops
Gigabyte on Thursday introduced its Windows 8 lineup, including a slate, a
convertible ultrabook and gaming laptops—all of which are powered by Intel
processors. What Gigabyte didn't announce, however, were prices and
availability for its Windows 8 offerings.
Gigabyte’s S1082 slate has a 10.1-inch display with 1366 by
768 pixel resolution. It runs on an Intel dual-core processor, with 500GB hard
drive (HDD) storage and varied ports, including Ethernet, 2 USB ports, HDMI,
and an SD card reader. There’s a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front; a separate
multimedia docking station extends the battery life and adds a DVD drive, 3 USB
ports and better speakers.

The U2142 is an 11.6-inch
convertible ultrabook, with either Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro on board. The
display swivels and the ultrabook becomes a tablet with a multi-touch screen.
It runs on an Intel Core processor and has a dual solid-state drive (SSD) and
HDD storage system.

Gigabyte also renewed its laptop
range with Windows 8 support. The U2442 is a 14-inch lightweight laptop running on
an Intel Core processor and Nvidia GT 650M or 640M discrete graphics. The
laptop has a dual air vent system and the keyboard is backlit, adjusted
automatically by a light sensor.
There are also two Blu-ray-equipped
gaming notebooks. The P2542G has a 15.6-inch display, Intel Core i7
quad-core processor, and an Nvidia GTX 660M GPU with 2GB RAM. Storage options
include either a 7200rpm HDD or an SSD. The P2742G is larger at 17 inches, but
also comes with a quad-core chip and Nvidia GTX 660M graphics. It has two bays
for extra storage drives (up to 2TB), a Blu-Ray Combo Drive, USB 3.0 ports, and
Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
